attacks, but they just use the same button and you just have to tap it as fast as possible during the summoning animation (great for a mode shift to enable turbo, or a long press activator, or action layer switch), just be sure to stop before the attack happens or it resets the boost back to 0. There aren't really any QTEs other than boosting your G.F. Yeah, the prompts can be annoying but once you've learned what button does what, the prompts become more a nuisance than a helpful feature. That said, personally I would just use a keyboard configuration because you get more functionality (like the booster cheats) with keyboard controls than you do with gamepad controls. If the controller configuration is in the game though, you might be in luck, you'll need to use your keyboard to get to it and then from there it should pick up the Steam Controller.
If the controller configuration is in the launcher, you'll probably have to use GloSC because the launcher will otherwise set the Steam Controller to the desktop configuration, and only changes to the gamepad configuration after the game loads. You might be able to get it working by making sure your Steam Controller is only set up as a gamepad, no keyboard & mouse inputs at all, and then in the game itself (or the launcher, I can't remember where it is on the Steam re-release), make sure to map all the controls where you want them on the Steam Controller.
STEAM FINAL FANTASY 8 UPDATE
The game was originally released on PC back in like 2000 and Xinput didn't exist until around 2005, so it's using DirectInput, the re-release on Steam didn't really do anything but add DRM, they didn't go back in and patch in Xinput support or update the graphics or anything like that. Xinput can be backwards compatible with DirectInput (which is better than Xinput in every sense except the "standard layout", Xinput is plug and play, one layout to rule them all, while DirectInput requires you to set up what you want each button to do per game.) Unless FF8 has been updated, I don't believe it has Xinput support (the game came out several years before Xinput existed), which is what the Steam Controller is using when set as a gamepad. r/SteamDeck /r/SteamInput /r/GyroGaming /r/SteamControllerMods /r/SteamControllerMusic /r/ControllerSupporters /r/Steam /r/Steam_Link /r/SteamBox /r/SteamHardware /r/SteamOS /r/Valve Filters (subreddit theme must be enabled) Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: Off Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: Off Support: On Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: On Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: On Support: On Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: Off Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: Off Support: On Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: On Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: On Support: On Meta - Posts regarding the subreddit itself.
